A Journey of Transformation

Welcome to “Changing Results”, a blog that will document my journey from being a mug punter, losing money on horse races and other sports betting, to becoming a proficient trader on the Betfair exchange. This blog will chronicle my transition from the red (losing bets/money) to the green (profitable trades), using the power of machine learning, data analytics, AI, and integrated automated software.

Sports betting has often been seen as a game of luck, but with the advent of technology, it is becoming more of a science. Machine learning and data analytics are now being used to predict outcomes with a higher degree of accuracy. As Charles Malafosse, a data scientist, explains in his article on Towards Data Science, sports betting is a perfect problem for machine learning algorithms and specifically classification neural networks. There is a ton of data available and a clear objective – predict the outcome of a game.

In this blog, I will be exploring these concepts in depth. I will be creating systems, reviewing data, building models, and performing analysis. I will also be building tools that will help focus on making money from sports market trading. The goal is not just to make profitable trades, but to create a sustainable system that can consistently generate profits over time.

One of the key aspects of this journey will be automation. Automated trading systems can execute trades at a speed and frequency that is impossible for a human trader. They can monitor hundreds of markets simultaneously, analyze vast amounts of data in real time, and execute trades based on pre-determined criteria without any emotional interference.
